Birth Doula
The concept of labor companion is well documented from ancient art to the present day as evidence-based research. A doula is a person who provides emotional and physical support as well as helping the mother to get the information she needs to make informed decisions for a positive birth experience. She stays with the mother throughout the labor and support and relax. A doula recognizes birth as a key experience the mother will remember her life.
She also assists the mother in preparing and carrying out her plans for birth. She understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of the mother in labor. Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter lesser pain medication required, and less likely to need a c-section and have a positive birth experience.
Doulas also provide initial postnatal support Women who used doulas may have more success with breastfeeding as they stay with the mom after the birth for the first latch and stays in contact for few days with the new mom for support, as there is saying too “well begun is half done”
